Baba Banda Singh Bahadur : Bhai Gurbakhsh Singh Ji

He was born in October 1670 in a Rajput family doing farming in village Rajouri, district Punch, State of Kashmir. He was named Lachman Dev. As a child he was very fond of horse riding, martial art, hunting and was expert in use of bow and arrow and other weapons used in wars at that time.

US Sikh held, turban snatched over kirpan

A Sikh truck driver was arrested and his turban forcibly removed after marshals in a Connecticut court found his kirpan on him when he went to contest a traffic violation. Sachdev Singh, 47, a New Jersey resident, entered the State of Connecticut Superior Court in Stamford June 18. While passing through security, he told the officers that he had a five-inch kirpan under his clothing.

Recently I was having a conversation with a non-Sikh about names and how you can tell the gender of a Sikh individual just by looking at their name. I told her that there really wasn’t a fool-proof way of doing this since many Sikh names can be used by both men and women. However, I told her, when you see “Kaur” and “Singh” used in the name.

Pranab Promises Gurdwara Corridor

After a bus to Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev in Pakistan, Sikh devotees are likely to have a direct international corridor linking two historic Gurdwaras in Dera Baba Nanak, India, and Kartarpur, Pakistan. The distance between the Gurdwaras on either side of the international border being less than two miles, Sikhs have been demanding direct access to the shrine in Pakistan instead of going via Lahore.

Sikh student's turban set afire in NY

The Sikh community in New Jersey has demanded a full fledged inquiry into an incident in which a high school student allegedly set afire the "patka" or small turban worn by a fellow Sikh student, in an unprovoked attack.
The student suffered minor burns but it has raised outrage in the Sikh community which has also asked the school to do more to combat discrimination.

Gurdwaras condemn Sikh assault in UK

Washington Metropolitan Gurdwara Federation has expressed shock and dismay at forcibly chopping off a Sikh boy's hair in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. In a statement, the Federation appealed to the law enforcement agencies and the local government to step up their efforts to nab the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Shirdi Ke Sai Baba Ki Leela To Badi Hi Nyaari Aur Aneri Hai, I experience this in very step of my life. Even a small wish of mine is fulfilled by Him even after I forget my own wish. I heard Sai Dhun (the second one) on India TV. It is played in the background whenever leelas or Sai Baba are aired some information is given. Sai Devotee and a colleague of mine asked me for this dhun but as I was not having with me I had to say him no. But I tried searching it but in vain.

US authorities sue firm for not hiring Sikh

US authorities have sued a Texas company accusing it of religious discrimination in not hiring a Sikh on the basis of his appearance. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is seeking back pay and punitive damages for pain and suffering caused to Sukhdev Singh Brar, a certified security officer in the Dallas area, the CBS news network has reported. In a case filed last week, the commission also wants a judge to order the company to change its hiring practices.

Guruji in certain temples chanting is done just for the heck of it. Its not done from the heart. In such a case will it have good effect on impact? Guruji: No. it may not have as good impact. If chanting is done with the meaning and as well as the bhava(feelings), then there will be a very good impact. Like during Navratri. How many have you have felt the energy during the Navratri puja? Because all the priests who chants knows what
they are chanting.

US company sued for asking Sikh to shave off his beard

A Texas company has been sued for religious discrimination by the US government after it did not hire a Sikh who refused to shave his beard and take off his turban. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is seeking punitive damages for Sukhdev Singh Brar, a certified security officer in the Dallas area, apart from back pay and compensation for pain and suffering caused to him.

BC Sikh temple holds first service for 331 victims of '85 Air ...

A marathon reading of the Sikh holy book began Friday at a British Columbia temple, the first-ever memorial service at the temple in honour of the 331 people who died in the 1985 Air India bombings. Members of the Dashmesh Darbar temple in Surrey, B.C., are to take turns over the next three days reading the text around-the-clock, in a ceremony called an akhand path.

US golf magazine apologises to Sikhs for doctoring picture

A leading US golf magazine has tendered an apology to the Sikh community for using a doctored image of Guru Arjan Dev in its May 2008 issue. Hundreds of Sikhs who considered the image blasphemous sent their protests to the magazine. Golf Digest magazine has also agreed to publish a public apology in its August issue for an item which showed the Sikhs' fifth guru as a "golfing guru," holding a golf club and offering advice to the readers, something considered blasphemous.

Sikhs take out protest rally in Kolkata

Hundreds of Sikhs on Monday took out a protest march and later staged a sit-in here against the killing of a community member allegedly by the bodyguard of Dera Sacha Sauda chief in Mumbai last week. About 500 Sikhs, under the banner of Central Gurudwara Committee, carried posters denouncing the Dera Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and shouted slogans. Later they submitted a memorandum to the West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi.

A day after thousands of armed Sikhs attacked innocent commuters, Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray sent them a warning signal through the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Samna.
“Whatever your sects and your differences, stop the sword attacks immediately,” he wrote in Sunday's issue. "If Maharashtra rises in anger, it will be a big disaster."

Dera chief taken to undisclosed place as Sikh protests spread

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was whisked away to an undisclosed destination by the police under heavy security cover on Sunday. Ram Rahim Singh arrived here late on Saturday evening and stayed overnight. A heavy security cloak was thrown around him following disturbances in Mumbai and other places during the last few days. Balkar Singh (40), was killed when the Dera chief’s security guards allegedly opened fire on Sikh demonstrators near a mall in the Mumbai suburb of Mulund on Friday.
